Patient Showcase

Patient: Cheryl Lewis
Business: Personal Publishing Consultant

Dr. Wolf You're a Personal Publishing Consultant with Heritage Makers, what is a Personal Publishing Consultant?
Cheryl Lewis   As a Personal Publishing Consultant I help others archive & organize their photos, write their stories and preserve their heritage through Storybooking. Basically I help you take your photos from a box and put them in a treasured storybook so that your family will read, treasure and remember the stories and photos in your family for generations to come. These are products that won't be re-gifted, thrown out or placed in a yardsale!
Dr. Wolf What inspired you to become a personal publishing consultant?
Cheryl Lewis I love scrapbooking, but don't have the time for the traditional method these days, so I went digital with Heritage Makers! I also recognize the value and importance of preserving your stories and writing them down before they're forgotten. We can build self-esteem in our kids, improve relationships and bind families together through these powerful tools. Our legacy and history is something we should be proud of, as it is a huge part of WHO and WHAT we are today. Helping others accomplish this for themselves and see the smile on their face is rewarding for me.
Dr. Wolf What are the benefits of Digital Storybooking and who would most benefit from your services?
Cheryl Lewis Digital Storybooking is faster, less expensive, portable, less mess, unique, a user-friendly system and much more! These storybooks are quality hard cover library bound books and meant to last forever. Honestly, WE ALL HAVE PHOTOS, STORIES AND MEMORIES of our vacations, special moments and occasions in our lives. Before you forget them, write the story about that special time, add the photos and publish your first book so that you can remember it forever.
Dr. Wolf How could our patients see an example of your work and contact you to preserve their pictures and their stories?
Cheryl Lewis My website is a catalogue of ideas and examples of what you can do yourself. It's www.MemoriesInMyPocket.com. We have an amazing Template Gallery of over 2000 projects that have been pre-designed and are ready to use yourself! I offer a photo scanning service as well. I'm always looking for someone that's interested in hosting a party and earning FREE products for themselves! Feel free to contact me to see some examples of books and projects that I've done myself or to learn more about Heritage Makers. My phone number is (602) 920-8741. Cheryl Lewis It's always wise to ask questions and be an informed patient, so that you'll feel comfortable with your dentist and their practice.

Hygiene Happenings

Why Healthy Teeth and Gums Are Important

Regular dental checkups and cleanings — at least twice a year — are essential for good dental health because the prevention and early detection of oral cancer, gum & bone disease and tooth decay is the least expensive and least traumatic form of dental health care. The steps you take at home are just as important for maintaining a healthy smile. Flossing and brushing — often, correctly, and thoroughly — are the basics of a solid at-home dental health routine.

It's important to thoroughly clean your teeth twice daily. Regular and thorough brushing & flossing can get rid of food particles trapped between the teeth, as well as sugary residue coating the teeth. Regular brushing & flossing also helps break down plaque, a clear coating of bacteria that covers your teeth. Left untreated, plaque can form cavities in your teeth and is the primary cause of gum & bone disease.

In addition to simply brushing your teeth, be mindful of the way you're brushing, as well as how often.

We recommend brushing should be done with a soft-bristled brush, angled at 45 degrees toward the gum line, in small circular and back-and-forth motions. Brush for at least two to three minutes to thoroughly clean all the tooth surfaces.

The Sonicare toothbrush is the most effective brush for removing bacteria and stain and we recommend the Sonicare over a manual brush because of its effectiveness.

Also, take time to brush the backs of your front teeth, as that can help minimize the buildup of tartar. Tartar is hardened plaque, and once it forms, a dental cleaning is usually the only way to remove it.

As with brushing your teeth, the proper technique will allow you to get the most benefit from flossing. Dental floss should be wound around the middle fingers and gently slid between the teeth with guidance from the index fingers and thumbs. Wrap the floss around one side of a tooth, and gently work it up and down for a few strokes; then floss the other side. This motion will remove the sticky, bacteria-filled plaque that accumulates between teeth, causing tooth decay and gum disease.

Although these steps may take a few extra minutes each day, the benefits of having healthy teeth and a bright smile are well worth the effort.

Final Thoughts

Have you ever found yourself feeling down or melancholy for no apparent reason? Well, at the time I'm writing these Final Thoughts, I'm feeling a little down. Perhaps it's due to me spending a good part of my Sunday doing work in the office. In an effort to change my mental state, I shifted my focus to thinking of things I'm grateful for. Some of my thoughts of gratitude included things I have taken for granted, like my ability to breathe easy, my well-functioning digestive system and my immune system. As I continued to dwell on things I'm grateful for, my thoughts came to my career. The success of Majestic Dentistry would not be what it is today with out my wonderful patients and my outstanding team; and because of this, I am extremely grateful and honored.
